Consumer Protection and Proceeds of Crime Bills passed in the National Assembly

Two Bills were passed in the National Assembly (Federal Parliament) on Monday October 30th. During the Sitting, the Consumer Protection Bill, 2023 and the Proceeds of Crime (Amendment) Bill, 2023 were passed with support from both the Government side and Opposition side. Minister of Consumer Affairs Dr. Denzil Douglas, was the Mover of the Bill.

 

 

 

Consumer Protection Bill, 2023: is a bill to provide for the promotion and protection of consumer interest in relation to the supply of goods and provisions of services, to ensure the protection of life, health and safety of consumers, the establishment of a consumer affairs department, and for connected purposes.

 

 

 

The second Bill was Proceeds of Crime (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and the Mover was Attorney-General Hon. Garth Wilkin. It is a bill to amend the Proceeds of Crime Act, Cap. 4.28 and for related matters.

Also, for the sitting, Members of Parliament incorporated the colour pink in their wardrobe in observance on Breast Cancer Awareness Month (celebrated in October) and in solidarity with the many persons affected by breast cancer.
