Candidates who wrote the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) May-June 2026 Mathematics exam were presented with two results when they logged in to access their results. In the wake of this, the Federal Ministry of Education issued a press release, seeking to clear up the matter.
In the release, it said “the move forms part of CXC’s transition to its newest offering, the Caribbean Target Education Certificate (CTEC) micro-credential. CTEC is a subcomponent of CSEC where the topics in the syllabus have been grouped into three modules (Module 1 – Beginner, Module 2 – Intermediate, Module 3 – Advanced).”
In providing a rationale, the release mentioned “since 1998, students who returned grades I-III would have met the requirements to receive the subject award (e.g. Mathematics). In the past, students who returned grades IV-VI would have been required to rewrite the entire exam to receive the subject award.”
However, as of June 2027, students writing exams have the option to only write modules 2 and/or 3 once they were issued grades A – D for CSEC MATHEMATICS GENERAL (MODULE 1) in June 2026. Also, the option to write the entire exam in one sitting still exists, which is equivalent to writing the three modules.
In addition to their regular certificate, candidates will be awarded, the CTEC micro-credential or CTEC only if one (1) or two (2) modules are attempted. Three (3) successful CTEC micro-credentials are equivalent to the subject award.
