Film tourism an economic driver and a “new niche” for SKN

Notwithstanding the Covid-19 pandemic’s economic impact on various economies across the world, as well as St. Kitts & Nevis’, a significant economic driver was highlighted by Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris, during Tuesday evening’s (March 16th) “Leadership Matters” program.

UK film and television production company, MSR Media and the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) signed an agreement for the production of two films on Nevis in 2021, the first being “One Year Off”, which is schedule to finish filming in May 2021.

For the first film, ‘One Year Off’ thirty two (32) locals and residents have been hired full time with the film crew, eight have been cast for speaking roles in the film, and over 160 persons have secured roles as supporting artistes.

Regarding PM Harris’ remarks, MSR Media’s producer, Mr. Philippe Martinez, announced in February the company’s intention of shooting a total of six films here on Nevis, over the next year.
