Her Excellency – Ms. Marcella Liburd JP, was sworn-in as the Federation’s 1st female Governor-General (GG), last evening.

This comes following an announcement by Prime Minister, Dr. Terrance Drew, during the Labour Party’s 90th Anniversary Service on Sunday, January 22nd.

She will succeed His Excellency – Sir S.W. Tapley Seaton GCMG, CVO, KC, JP, LL.D, who served as GG for almost eight years.

Ms. Liburd has served St. Kitts and Nevis in various capacities, as a Teacher, Lawyer, Senator, Deputy Speaker, Speaker of the National Assembly and Cabinet Minister of the Federal Government.

The Swearing-in Ceremony of the new Governor-General was held at 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31st, 2023 at Government House in St. Kitts.
