High Command of Police Force reminds public of SOE

The High Command of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF), has issued a reminder to the public, regarding the State of Emergency (SOE).

 

The SOE was announced on Saturday, March 28th 2020, by Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris.

 

A State of Emergency is a situation in which a government is empowered to perform actions or impose policies that it would normally not be permitted to undertake. A government can declare such a state, during a natural disaster, civil unrest, armed conflict, medical pandemic or epidemic or other biosecurity risk.

 

In a statement, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), McCarta Browne, explained what the SOE entails.

 

 

He also spoke about who are authorized to be away from home.

“Essential workers” according to the Statutory Rules and Orders No. 7 of 2020 Emergency Powers (CoVID-19) Regulations, 2020, section 7 (2), states include (and I quote)……

 

“Essential officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, St. Kitts-Nevis Defense Force, Fire and Rescue Services Department, prisons, correctional facilities, or other similar establishments, Social Security, Departments Social Services, Environmental Health, Immigration, Customs and Excise Department, waste disposal and sanitation companies, any hospital, health care or medical facility, St. Kitts-Nevis Red Cross, Air and Sea Ports Authorities, Accountant General’s Department and Inland Revenue Department, any water, electricity or other sector encompassing the provision of electronic communications including print and electronic media.” End quote.
