Inland Revenue Department Nevis advises vigilance for Christmas shopping season
The Inland Revenue Department in St. Kitts and Nevis is encouraging the public to take advantage of the upcoming VAT DVR Days which will be held on Friday, December 13th and Saturday, December 21st.
The department advises all to be vigilant when making purchases, by making sure that stores and retailers charging Value Added Tax are registered to do so.
A Value-Added Tax (VAT) is a Consumption Tax that is levied on the value added at each stage of a product’s production and distribution.
The standard VAT rate in St Kitts and Nevis is 17 percent. VAT is generally included in the cost of the products. Entities are required to display their VAT certificates where they can be seen by all customers.
For businesses that are eligible for VAT reduction days, receipts must reflect the 5% reduction rate.
For more information, contact the Inland Revenue Department Nevis at 469-5521 ext. 5010.
