Latoya Jones appointed as Opposition Senator in the National Assembly and presumptive Deputy Speaker 

Premier’s Advisor, Latoya Jones has been appointed as Opposition Senator in the National Assembly and presumptive Deputy Speaker.

 

Her swearing in Ceremony was conducted on Monday, October 24th at the Court House in Charlestown.

 

The VON Newsline spoke with Ms. Jones and this is what she had to say: 

 

 

In accordance with Section 46 (1) of the Constitution of St. Christopher and Nevis, the Governor-General will read the Proclamation summoning the New Session of the National Assembly at the First Sitting (Opening of Parliament) of the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly scheduled for Tuesday, October 25, 2022.

 

Following the Proclamation, a new Speaker of the House will be elected and subsequently a Deputy Speaker, presumed to be Ms. Jones.   

 

Meanwhile, Premier of Nevis and Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Mark Brantley commented on Ms. Jones appointment.

 

He was quoted as saying: “Congratulations Latoya Jones on your appointment as Opposition Senator in the National Assembly and presumptive Deputy Speaker in the National Parliament, a first for a Nevisian woman and a young person. May your service be long and rewarding for the people of Nevis and the wider Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis” end of quote.
