Levy Deduction Threshold Increased following new Minimum Wage
Levy Deduction Threshold Increased following new Minimum Wage
The St. Christopher and Nevis Social Security Board has announced important changes to the Housing and Social Development Levy, effective July 1, 2025, in line with a minimum wage increase from $430 to $500 per week.
The new weekly exemption threshold for the Levy is now $520. This means employees earning up to that amount will only have the 5% Social Security deduction taken from their wages —no Levy will apply.
Levy Exemption Thresholds by Pay Cycle: Weekly: No Levy on wages up to $520, Bi-weekly: Up to $1,040, Semi-monthly: Up to $1,126.67 and Monthly: Up to $2,253.33.
For those earning over $6,500 monthly, the tiered Levy system remains in place: Tier Two: 3.5% on wages up to $6,500, Tier Three: 10% on wages between $6,500.01 and $8,000, Tier Four: 12% on wages above $8,000.
The employer’s Levy contribution remains at 3%, unchanged. For details, visit www.socialsecurity.kn or contact the Social Security Board at 869-465-2535 (St. Kitts) or 869-469-5245 (Nevis).
