The Inland Revenue Department is encouraging taxpayers to register for and utilize the SMARTS platform as it expands digital tax administration services across St. Kitts and Nevis.
Speaking on the InFocus programme, Assistant Comptroller of Inland Revenue, Eliza Mills said SMARTS, which stands for Sustainable Modernized Administration Tax Revenue System, was introduced in March 2024 and allows taxpayers to manage all tax obligations under a single Tax Identification Number (TIN).
Mills highlighted several benefits of the platform, including the ability to view tax accounts online, submit objections electronically at any time, access official documents, and securely manage tax affairs through two-factor authentication. Ms. Mills gave this warning:
Property tax administration is now being integrated into the system, with taxpayers able to view their 2026 demand notices online after registering. While the system is operational on Nevis for most taxes, persons would not be able to pay property tax on the platform as the Nevis Island Administration concludes its Revaluation exercise.
Additionally, during the programme, Chief Valuation Officer, Norvin Rawlins disclosed that more than 26,000 property tax obligations exist nationwide, resulting in a similar number of demand notices being issued annually. Persons can sign up for the SMARTS platform through the Inland Revenue Department’s website: www.sknird.com.
