Divisional Commander for District ‘C’ (Nevis) of the Royal St. Christopher & Nevis Police Force, Superintendent of Police Alonzo Carty, urged the public on April 23rd, to obey restrictions when it comes to Cannabis:
In March, Merville Liburd of Zion and Ronald King of Hamilton, Nevis were charged with the offences of Cultivation of Cannabis and Cultivation of Cannabis with Intent to Supply. In St. Kitts, People’s Action Movement (PAM) political candidate for Constituency #2 (Central Basseterre), Nubian (say gree-oh) Greaux was charged with the offences of Possession of Cannabis and Cultivation of Cannabis with Intent to Supply. These incidents resulted in a silent protest in Charlestown.
However, what is the proper procedure? How many plants can one person have? Section 3, subsection C of the Freedom of Conscience (Cannabis) Saint Christopher Act, 2023, states: “An adult may apply to the Ministry (ministry means the Ministry responsible for faith-based affairs) for a licence permitting, cultivation of five or less cannabis plants in a secured area within that person’s private premises so as to prevent minors or persons vulnerable to substance abuse from accessing such plants or any other unauthorized access to such plants.”
But can we decide to plant Cannabis, because the law allows 5 or less plants? Superintendent Carty gave this response:
