The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has launched a National Biometric Enrolment and Passport Modernization Programme, marking a major step toward strengthening border security and aligning with global travel standards.

Spearheaded by the Ministry of National Security in collaboration with the Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU), the initiative introduces biometric passports embedded with fingerprints, facial scans, and digital signatures. The one-time enrolment process, which takes 15 to 30 minutes, is designed to produce more secure and fraud-resistant travel documents without requiring re-enrolment at renewal stage.

The programme officially commenced on April 14th, 2026 and nationals through the CBI programme can begin scheduling appointments after April 20th. The deadline for enrolment is July 31st, 2027, after which non-compliant passports will be deactivated, restricting international travel.

While participation is strongly encouraged for all citizens, only certain categories are subject to the mandatory deadline. Native-born and other citizens are encouraged to register for biometric enrolment, though the July 31st, 2027 deadline does not apply to them.
