Phase one of “the largest housing initiative of its kind in history” will soon commence in St Kitts. That is according to the National Housing Corporation (NHC).

Dubbed the SMART Housing Initiative, the project will see the construction of 2,400 homes over a five year period. It is being implemented by the NHC in collaboration with the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Phase one will see the construction of 600 homes by the end of 2023.

In a press release disseminated by the National Housing Corporation “the process has begun with the reviewing of applications and the reconfiguration of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom Architectural designs. These SMART homes will be modernized and equipped with solar energy and water cisterns/tanks never before seen in NHC affordable homes.”

The project aims to stimulate the economy by providing employment opportunities and “enrich citizens through the ownership of homes…contributing to their upward mobility”.
