NRP Founding Member; Uhral Swanston passes away at 86

One of the Founding Members of the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP), Former Politician and Businessman, Mr. Uhral St. Clair Swanston passed away at the age of 86, on Friday March 10th.

 

 

 

Born in Zion Village, Gingerland, Nevis, Mr. Swanston’s influence was felt around the community particularly during the 1960s, 70s and 80s.

 

 

 

In 1980, Mr. Swanston became a Member of the PAM/NRP Coalition Government led by then Prime Minister, Dr. Sir Kennedy A. Simmonds, after running unopposed. In 1983, when the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis attained Independence, Mr. Swanston was appointed Minister of Communications, Works, Public Utilities and Posts in the first Nevis Island Administration (NIA). From 1984, he served as the NRP representative in Government until 1995.

On August 26th, 2010, the stretch of road from Market Shop in Gingerland to the end of Zion Hill was officially renamed the Uhral St. Clair Swanston Highway in honour of his contributions
