The High Command of The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) has begun an investigation into the incident that occurred on January 8th 2022, at the Last Lap Bar in Bird Rock, St. Kitts.
According to a statement from the High Command, “the Police are in the process of gathering evidence, which includes, but is not limited to, conducting interviews, taking statements, and requesting reports.” The incident involves Minister Lindsay Grant.
The RSCNPF is committed to the delivery of justice and we are assuring the public that a thorough investigation is being undertaken to bring this matter to a just resolution.
In a statement on Wednesday, Mr. Grant said “while the videos do not display the full extent of the incident that night, I do understand the position that I hold… I regret how the circumstances have been portrayed and I wish to assure the public and the police in particular that I fully support their efforts of the preservation of law and order.”
However, SKNLP Political Leader, Dr Terrance Drew, on Tuesday called for the “immediate resignation” of the Minister after the video went viral on social media with him, Mr. Grant accosting compliance officers of the NEOC Task Force.
Member of Parliament for St Christopher 1 (East Basseterre), the Hon Dr Geoffrey Hanley said “when citizens break the law, they are held accountable. When politicians who are supposed to be beacons of hope they too should be held accountable.”
Minister of Foreign Affairs & Aviation, Premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley, who is part of the Federal Cabinet, expressed that he has seen videos pertaining to the incident and made his stance clear.
