Police say Mem’s Pizzeria Robbery Victim “still alive and progressing”

“Alive and progressing” were the words used from a spokesperson for the police here on Nevis, in reference to a woman who was shot during a robbery on the island earlier this month.

 

 

 

On Saturday May 13th, according to a police communiqué, Jamilla Wallace of Cherry Garden, was approached by two armed assailants while she was parked in Mem’s Pizzeria’s yard, after the business had closed.

 

 

 

The robbers demanded money and proceeded to steal her bag and phone. Upon realizing there was a robbery in progress, the staff closed the business’ entrance door.

 

 

 

The robbers then fired several shots at the building, wounding staff member Maria Merchant of Stoney Grove. Several reports made the rounds on social media of the woman’s untimely passing. However, in an update about the victim, a police spokesperson told the VONNEWSLINE “she is alive and is progressing nicely”. In addition, a spokesperson for the National Security’s Ministry told the VONNEWSLINE, that “there aren’t any official reports of her death”.
