Recycling Bin installed at Charlestown Pier to Cut Waste

The Nevis Solid Waste Management Authority has installed a new recycling receptacle at the Charlestown Ferry Terminal, giving residents and visitors a convenient way to dispose plastic and aluminum waste.

The initiative was launched on April 22nd in observance of World Earth Day, and is part of efforts to reduce the amount of garbage being sent to the landfill.

Recycling Project Coordinator, Shelagh James says the receptacle is strategically placed at the busy ferry terminal to encourage proper waste disposal in high-traffic areas.

Minister of Health, Jahnel Nisbett, says expanding recycling across the island is critical, noting that diverting materials like plastic and aluminum can help preserve limited landfill space.

The receptacle is designed to separate both materials, and the public is being urged to use it correctly and avoid disposing of other types of waste.

Authorities say similar initiatives are expected as efforts continue to strengthen environmental protection on Nevis.
