SKN’s Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew on Wednesday October 19th, highlighted the importance of regional integration in his maiden address at the 72nd Meeting of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Authority held in Montserrat.

The opening ceremony of the 72nd Meeting of the OECS Authority was held under the auspices of the OECS Chairman, Premier of Montserrat, Hon. Easton Taylor-Farrell.

The signing of the Treaty of Basseterre on June 18th 1981, gave birth to the OECS with seven Eastern Caribbean states as full members, namely: Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Montserrat. The British Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Martinique and Guadeloupe  are associate members of the OECS.

Over four (4) decades later, Prime Minister Dr. Drew said the OECS has now “evolved into an Economic Union, thereby deepening the level of integration.”
