RUSVM donates superior breed of Goats to enhance meat production on Nevis

The Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) has donated ten Boer goats to the Ministry of Agriculture on Nevis as part of an ongoing effort to improve the quality of commercial livestock on Nevis.

 

Premier Mark Brantley gave more details:

 

The handover ceremony took place on Wednesday, July 28th, 2021.

 

Deputy Premier of Nevis and Federal Minister of Agriculture the Hon. Alexis Jeffers, in commenting on the partnership the Government has with the RUSVM was quoted as saying “Indeed we are happy that we have had this partnership because ultimately all of our livestock farmers will be the recipients of this particular breed and that would lead to the enhancement of their livelihood,” end quote.

 

Also present at the ceremony were officials from the Nevis Ministry of Agriculture inclusive of: Permanent Secretary of Agriculture on Nevis, Mr. Huey Sargeant; Director of the Department of Agriculture, Mr. Randy Elliott; Deputy Director, Mr. Floyd Liburd as well as members from the Ministry of Agriculture on St. Kitts and several RUSVM faculty and students. 

 

The donated goats were taken to the government-operated Maddens Livestock Farm in St. James’.

 

According to a student at RUSVM, the project has donated approximately 275 goats thus far.
