St. Kitts and Nevis will celebrate National Heroes’ Day on Saturday September 16th.

The day, which is a public holiday, commemorates citizens of the Federation who have given distinguished service to the country. The 1st Heroes’ Day took place on September 16th 1998. It honoured the late Sir Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw, who was the first Premier of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Mr. Bradshaw was also born on Sep. 16th 1916.

SKN’s national heroes are: (Sirs) Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw, C.A. Paul Southwell, Joseph Nathaniel France, Simeon Daniel and Kennedy Simmonds (only living national hero).

In light of the holiday meanwhile, a notice from the Federal Cabinet’s Secretariat says, “according to the Public Holidays Act, it is only if a public holiday falls on a Sunday that the next following Monday shall be a public holiday.”

This means that Friday September 15th is not a holiday and Monday September 18th is not a holiday. However, Tuesday September 19th, is a public holiday as the nation celebrates its 40th anniversary of Independence
