St. Kitts and Nevis joined the world in celebrating International Day of the Girl Child (IDG) 2023 on Wednesday October 11th. IDG, celebrated under the theme: “Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being”, is observed annually on October 11th. It is a global platform to advocate for the full spectrum of girls’ rights.
According to unicef.org, “this year, at a time when we are seeing a range of movements and actions to curtail girls and women’s rights and roll back progress on gender equality, we see particularly harsh impacts on girls.”
Nevis’ Minister of Gender Affairs, is the Hon. Jahnel Nisbett:
In keeping with IDG, the Departments of Gender Affairs (both St. Kitts and Nevis), is hosting “the Girl of Excellence Award” this week, which is presented to the girl child who displays positive skills in leadership, social virtues and an overall commitment to personal excellence.
Nevis’ Department in particular, will continue to visit schools and distribute the awards, up until Friday October 13th.
