The Federal Government through the Department of Gender Affairs has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with an Empowerment Center in an effort to combat social issues such as domestic violence and gender based abuse.
A MOU is a non-legal agreement between two parties showing a common line of action, hoping to be achieved by the parties involved. The Empowerment Center ‘Garden of Rebirth’ is a facility which seeks to assist women and children who have fallen victim to gender-based violence and to provide a safe haven.
During the signing ceremony, Junior Minister with responsibility for Gender Affairs et.al, Hon. Isalean Phillip, spoke on the importance of the new initiative and the role it will play in assisting the government to provide care to those who need it.
