The Federal cabinet held its first meeting for 2024 on Monday, January 15th.
The meeting, which was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew commenced with prayer over the cabinet by Bishop Cyprian Williams as they begin the governance of St. Kitts and Nevis for a new year.
Additionally, the cabinet approved the nation’s support towards the World Trade Organization (WTO) Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies. The agreement, adopted at the 12th Ministerial Conference on June 17th 2022, marked a major step forward for ocean sustainability by prohibiting harmful fisheries subsidies, which are a key factor in the widespread depletion of the world’s fish stocks. For the Agreement to become operational, two-thirds of members have to deposit their “instruments of acceptance” with the WTO.
