The St. Kitts and Nevis Bureau of Standards (SKNBS) has issued a public advisory following a voluntary recall in the United States of a2 Platinum Premium Infant Formula 0–12 months due to possible contamination with Cereulide, a heat-stable toxin produced by certain strains of Bacillus Cereus.
The recalled product, manufactured by the a2 Milk Company, was distributed in three affected batches in the U.S. under an import programme that has since expired.
Although the formula is not confirmed to have been widely distributed locally, consumers are urged to check product labels and batch numbers as a precaution.
Health officials noted that Cereulide is not destroyed by heating and can cause rapid onset of gastrointestinal illness, including nausea and vomiting. Infants are particularly vulnerable due to their developing immune systems, with dehydration identified as a key risk.
Consumers are advised to immediately discontinue use of any affected product and seek refunds where applicable. No confirmed illnesses have been reported in relation to the recalled batches.
