St. Kitts and Nevis celebrates World Food Day for 2023

“Water is life, Water is food. Leave no one behind”

 

That was theme for World Food Day (WFD) 2023. World Food Day is an international day celebrated annually on October 16th, to commemorate the date of the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 1945.

 

The theme seeks to highlight the fact that water is essential to life on Earth. 

 

The goal of WFD is to bring attention to and taking action against global hunger and malnutrition. Additionally, it serves as a reminder of the need to ensure food security and everyone’s access to wholesome food.

 

Federal Minister of Agriculture, Samal Duggins, made this remark in an address to commemorate WFD 2023:

Here on Nevis, to mark the observance, Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Eric Evelyn during his address on Monday spoke on the importance of Water in Agriculture:

 

 

 According to Hon. Evelyn, the Nevis Island Administration is interested in ensuring that food is accessible, affordable and available.  He said that in partnership with the Ministry and Department of Agriculture and the Nevis Island Administration, efforts are being made to produce food nutritionally rich and free of chemicals that can cause negative health effects.

 

Mr. Evelyn continued by saying that the overall goal must be aligned with the Ministry of Health in serving healthy food to the general public and said we must continue to be responsible:
