St. Kitts and Nevis wins Four matches at First Global Challenge Robotics Competition 

St. Kitts and Nevis (SKN) won four matches at the recently concluded First Global Challenge Robotics Competition in Geneva, Switzerland. 

 

 

The competition took place from October 13th to 16th. This year’s challenge saw 180 teams from across the world in attendance. 

 

Founder and Primary Mentor of the St. Kitts and Nevis’ Robotics Association, Dr. Ricardo Neil and a team of eight youths of the Federation participated in a number of game themed challenges, centered around the greatest challenges  facing our planet in an effort to foster understanding and cooperation amongst the youth of the world as they use their abilities to solve the world’s problems. 

 

 

Team SKN was comprised of: Mr. Zhavier Shaw as Secondary Mentor, Ms. Patrina Perreira – Team Captain, Mr. Lakshya Sharma – Engineer, Mr. Michael Shaw – Programmer, Ms. Malyka Howell – PRO along with Mr. Anthony Li, Tau Omowale, Brandon Powell and Ms. Yakira Elliott. 

 

Team SKN, however, finished outside the competition’s top 15 percent and did not advance to the playoffs. In the end, Belize was dubbed the winner of the event. 

 

This is the first time that a team from the Caribbean has won or medalled at the competition.

 

The Bahamas, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Cuba, Suriname, Bermuda and Grenada were among the teams that represented the Caribbean.
