Two Primary Schools collect over 13 000 bottles in Pilot recycling Campaign.
On May 1st, 2025, the Nevis Solid Waste Management Authority in collaboration with the Taiwan ICDF, launched a pilot Plastic Bottle Recycling Campaign in two primary schools. The students were given a theme, that is, for every 12 plastic bottles collected, one t-shirt can be created.
The two participating schools were the Maude Cross Preparatory School and the Montessori Academy. Shelagh James, Recycling Coordinator told the VON Newsline the results:
According to Ms. James, the combined total of 13,407 bottles diverted from Nevis’ Waste Management System to be recycled means “that even the smallest citizens can spark big change.”
Shelagh James. With the successful conclusion of the pilot campaign and the data collected, it is hoped that similar campaigns would be launched in the other primary schools on Nevis at the start of the new school year in September.
