World Down Syndrome Day to be recognized in SKN

St. Kitts and Nevis along with the rest of the world will recognize World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) on Tuesday, March 21st 2023, under the theme: “With Us Not For Us”.

WDSD has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. According to worlddownsyndromeday.org, the date chosen was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.

Over the past years, the day has been utilized to raise public awareness and create a single global voice advocating for the rights, inclusion and well-being of people with the condition.

The Federal Ministry of Social Development and Gender Affairs has released a statement encouraging persons to wear colourful, mismatched socks on Tuesday as a representation of the chromosome’s orientation and in support of youth and adults living with the condition
