Water availability to increase in Nevis following filtration system at Hamilton well for upcoming year

The public here on Nevis will see an increase in water on the island in the coming year.

The Nevis Island Administration will in 2020 be installing a filtration system at the well in the Hamilton area.

This development comes following a drought period the the island has been experiencing since the first quarter of 2019.

The well was one of three that was dug during a drilling expedition via a contract with BEAD LLC.

Of the three wells that were dug Fothergills, Maddens and Hamilton, only the previous two were commissioned.

Manager of the Nevis Water Resource Management Unit Mr. Floyd Robinson explained that the filtration system is necessary as the iron and manganese content were high at the Hamilton well making the water unsafe for human consumption.

Mr. Robinson also explained to this media house how the US$500 thousand system operates.

He further noted that the system is designed to reduce water wastage.
