The 2022 Atlantic Hurricane season is about three (3) weeks away, which runs from June 1st until November 30th annually.
AccuWeather’s meteorologists forecast another above-normal season in terms of tropical activity in the Atlantic, as well as a higher-than-normal chance that a major hurricane could make landfall in the mainland United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S Virgin Islands.
Additionally, 16-20 named storms, six to eight hurricanes and of those hurricanes, about three to five are forecast to reach major hurricane status, “Category 3 or high with winds exceeding 111 mph.”
This year is expected to be nearly identical to 2021, as it was also an above-normal season, with 21 named storms included seven hurricanes and four major hurricanes.
NEMA (National Emergency Management Agency) has encouraged all “to start preparing for the Hurricane season if they have not started doing so already.”
The following list of names will be used for this year’s named storms: Alex, Bonnie, Colin, Danielle, Earl, Fiona, Gaston, Hermine, Ian, Julia, Karl, Lisa, Martin, Nicole, Owen, Paula, Richard, Shary, Tobias, Virginie and Walter.
