One illegal firearm surrendered during SKN’s gun amnesty period

One illegal firearm was surrendered to the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force during the Gun Amnesty period in May, police say.

A spokesperson for the police said: “the weapon was a .380 RG Revolver with 16 matching rounds of ammunition and it was surrendered on May 17th, 2024.”

The gun amnesty implemented by Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr. Terrance Drew, for the period May 10th to the 25th, followed an announcement he made in Parliament on May 9th.

During that period, it allowed persons with illegal firearms to surrender unregistered or unwanted firearms to the police (as well as any attorney) without any action being taken in relation to possession offences. The identities of people who turned in their guns remained anonymous.

Hence, the number of illegal firearms taken off of the Federation’s streets for the year so far, is six (6), according to the police.
