St. Kitts and Nevis Advances National Digital ID And Border Tech

Prime Minister, Dr. Terrance Drew, in his July 7th national address stated that, St. Kitts and Nevis will be launching a national digital ID system by 2026, with plans to issue over 25,000 digital ID cards to citizens and residents. Dr. Drew says all technical equipment has passed factory testing in Taiwan and will arrive by October, 2025, for installation.

The system is being developed with Estonian tech firm Cybernetica and supported by Taiwan’s ICDF and Idemia. Also underway is a national digital payments platform to simplify transactions like tax payments and license renewals, which is expected to go live by mid-2026.

In border reforms, the country has rolled out the Caribbean’s first biometric face lanes. In just one month, the new border system processed over 21,000 travel applications, cutting immigration wait times by 96%.

The PM says the digital reforms are key to making government more efficient, accessible, and globally competitive.
