SKN’s Prime Minister and Chairman of Caricom, the Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, announced in January 2026, that St. Kitts and Nevis negotiated and entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the USA for the potential transfer of “certain third country” Caribbean Community (Caricom) nationals.
However, he mentioned that the only country which has been excluded is Haiti “because of security matters”. Since then, questions in the public sphere have been asked: what will SKN gain from this arrangement, why don’t the Caricom nationals go back to their own countries, and more.
Another question remains: does Nevis have the capacity to accommodate the nationals? The VONNEWSLINE posed that question to Premier, the Hon. Mark Brantley. This was his response in late January.
Mr. Brantley said there has not been any discussions about the Caricom Nationals.
