New Desalination Facility Set to Deliver 24-Hour Water to Basseterre

The St. Kitts and Nevis Information Service (SKNIS) has announced that the Federal Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy and Utilities will officially commission the Basseterre Desalination Plant on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at the C.A. Paul Southwell Industrial Park, marking its transition to full operations.

It is designed to produce up to two million gallons of potable water daily through reverse osmosis technology. The facility is expected to reduce service interruptions and support the restoration of 24-hour water access, while bolstering climate resilience amid growing demand.

Minister of Public Infrastructure and Water Services-St. Kitts, Hon. Konris Maynard, described the project as a critical national investment and a decisive step toward resolving long-standing water challenges in the capital.

The plant, implemented by the Ministry in collaboration with the Water Services Department and technical partners including Royal Utilities Ltd., was funded by the Republic of China (Taiwan).
