St. Kitts and Nevis along with other nations have recently been introduced to new visa restrictions by Ireland.
According to a report, this decision came into effect on Monday, June 15th, 2026.
The new rules apply to holders of ordinary, diplomatic and service passports and will also require citizens of the three countries to obtain a transit visa when passing through Ireland en route to another destination.
The measure was announced on Thursday, June 11th, 2026 by Ireland’s Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration.
Irish Minister for Migration Colm Brophy said the decision forms part of the government’s efforts to maintain consistency with immigration policies across Europe and within the Common Travel Area (CTA), which allows for passport-free movement between Ireland and the United Kingdom.
Premier of Nevis, Hon. Mark Brantley posted on his facebook page that “this is unfortunate news for St. Kitts and Nevis. I have no idea why Ireland would impose visa restrictions on our citizens especially if it claims to be following a UK and EU approach. I am hopeful that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will engage to determine what the issue might be”.
Other countries that were listed are St. Lucia and Nicaragua.
