Chairman of PLP resigns, Party says it is “experiencing cleansing”, time to find “new blood”

In less than one (1) week, the 4th person to resign from the People’s Labour Party (PLP) is its Chairman, Mr. Warren Thompson, who said “the PLP light that once shone to core values is now no longer shining and I cannot continue to follow.”

In a letter dated March 26th 2023, Mr. Thompson said “I took the Office of National Party Chairman for the Peoples Labour Party with pride, a party that shared concerns of citizens and residents…I was happy to be a part of the movement.”

However, he mentioned “sadly the PLP light that once shone to core values is now no longer shining and I cannot continue to follow. Therefore as of March 26th 2023, I resigned as National Chairman and will no longer be a part of the PLP membership.” Prior to this, the Party’s Deputy Leader and two of its Candidates that ran in the 2022 General Elections resigned on Mar. 24th and 25th.

While these recent developments have come to the fore, PLP in a statement on social media said it “is currently experiencing a detoxification and cleansing in preparation for their own renewal following the 2022 Elections. As of March 27th, all exec positions were relinquished thus whether through resignation or otherwise the cleansing was inevitable.” PLP won Constituency #7 in the elections.

“The exodus of a number of candidates and an Executive member of PLP simply means the party has to find new blood. This new blood is no doubt what will help to rejuvenate, re-energize and renew the party.” The statement concluded “PLP’s internal cleansing is just what the doctor ordered for the Caribbean’s fastest growing party.”
