New River Farmer’s Cooperative Launches New Project to tackle Water Woes

On Wednesday, September 8th 2022, Member of the New River Farmer’s Cooperative, the Nevis Department of Agriculture, the Water Resources Management Unit and the Nevis Water Department held a launch ceremony for a new GEF Small Grants Program Project titled the ‘New River Irrigations Enhancement Project’.

 

The project is aimed at increasing water supply, storage and on farm distribution at the New River Estate.


During an interview with the VONNEWSLINE, this was Director of Agriculture, Mr. Randy Elliott who gave us a brief history of the water issues at New River as well as the impacts the project will have:

The project is set to commence in the coming weeks and will last for 10 months. Mr. Elliott also gave these words of commendations to the New River Farmer’s Cooperative on their continuous efforts to improve the farmlands and ultimately food security:
