Newcastle Police Station to formally open on Thursday, December 3rd, 2020

The Newcastle Police Station will formally open later this week.

This is according to Premier of Nevis, the Hon. Mark Brantley.

Although there is no Portfolio here on Nevis for National Security, the Premier said the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) deemed it necessary to build the new facility for the officers:

Premier, the Hon. Mark Brantley.

In late 2016, Premier (then), the Hon. Vance Amory made the announcement that the police station has become unfit for humans to work in and it has become necessary to safeguard the police from further exposure to what he termed, as unhealthy conditions there.

Based on a Press Release from the NIA, Mr. Amory stated that the Hon. Alexis Jeffers who is the Area Representative for the Parish of St. James will spearhead the process of demolishing the building, finding a suitable plan and the relevant financing to construct a new police station in that area.

The matter was one that has been discussed over the years and in Mr. Amory’s view, the time came to execute the plan.
