On Thursday, November 14th, Nevis Health Promotion Unit (HPU) held a symposium at the Franklyn A. Browne Community Center to mark World Diabetes Day with the theme “Breaking Barriers, Bridging Gaps.”
The VONNEWSLINE caught up with Senior Health Educator at HPU, Shevanee Nisbett, who shared more on the symposium:
In collaboration with Community Nursing Services’ Coordinator, Nurse Deslyn Tyson-White, the Health Promotion Unit organized a day full of engaging educational activities for individuals living with diabetes and those managing the condition through dedicated treatment.
The event featured insightful presentations by Dietician Genesia Pemberton on the role of a balanced diet in diabetes management and the importance of Blood Glucose levels checkups and medication along with Health Educator Michelle Sutton, who demonstrated how exercise can be a powerful ally in controlling diabetes. All the members of HPU wore blue attire as that is the ribbon color for diabetes.
