Prime Minister Announces Major Steps to Preserve National Heritage at Independence Lecture
The 27th Annual Prime Minister’s Lecture Series, held under the theme “Perpetual Progress: A Sustainable Future in View,” brought together voices from across generations and many dignitaries including Governor General, Dame Marcella Liburd, the Federal Cabinet, diplomats, and ambassadors.
Youth participants asked bold questions about AI, reparations, outdated curricula, and cultural identity, all passionately addressed by expert panelists and the evening’s distinguished lecturer, Willa Liburd Tavernier, a Scholarly Communication Librarian & Attorney-at-law.
Miss Tavernier emphasized the critical role of information, archives, and digital storytelling in defining national identity especially in a post-colonial Caribbean context.
Prime Minister, Dr. Terrance Drew in his remarks reiterated Tavernier’s message of the importance of digitizing and preserving cultural memory:
He went on to say:
Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew. A period of silence was observed for the former governor general. Also, PM Drew concluded that the importance of preserving national culture and history highlights the significance of plans to transform the historic Fort Thomas Hotel site into a Caribbean Museum of History.
