The legal fraternity in St. Kitts and Nevis joined regional colleagues as the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC) ushered in the New Law Year on Monday, January 12, 2026.

Lawyers and court officials in St. Kitts and Nevis participated in the traditional Ceremonial Opening under the theme “The ECSC: Justice that Endures – Anchored in Independence, Strengthened through Trust.”

The opening of the law term marks not only the formal beginning of the judiciary’s calendar but also a time-honored moment of accountability, stewardship, and renewal, reaffirming the Court’s commitment to its mission while reflecting on its ongoing work and responsibilities.

Activities included a church service at the Wesley Methodist Church, followed by a ceremonial procession through central Basseterre, an inspection of the Guard of Honour, and a Special Sitting at the Charles Amory Building.

Regionally, Dominica served as the host Member State for the New Law Year, where the first sitting of the Court of Appeal for 2026 took place. Acting Chief Justice, Her Ladyship, Margaret Price-Findlay, delivered the traditional address. Next year, St. Kitts and Nevis is due to function as the Host Member State for the opening of the law year.
