Lawyer Mrs. Natasha Grey-Brookes emerged as the People’s Action Movement (PAM’s) first female Political Leader following the Party’s internal Elections on Sunday June 2nd. In addition, she is also the first female leader of a political party in St. Kitts.
According to a statement from PAM, “history was made at the caucus… Mrs. Grey-Brookes ran unopposed and she is now the fifth Political Leader of the party.” All positions on the National Executive were open at the caucus, including National Political Leader. The party said of the new leader, “she has been active in the party since her membership as a young Pamite – the youth arm of the party. Through the decades, she has held a number of elected positions on the party’s executive including Deputy Political Leader.”
The Political Leader will be supported by the executive arm of the party led by Sheldon Pemberton as Chairman elect. The other office holders emerging from the elections are Deputy Leaders – Azard Gumbs and Lincoln Pelle, Deputy Chairman – Shirley Morgan, Assistant General Secretary-Joevarny Flemming, Treasurer – Drucilla Carty-Richards and PRO Laverne Caines. The newly-elected members of the party will be ratified at the party’s convention on Sunday June 9th.
In the wake of this meantime, Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM’s) Leader, Nevis’ Premier Mark Brantley, extending congratulations and said via his Facebook page “I am delighted to see young people taking their rightful place in the political life of our country. I look forward to the contribution of Mrs. Grey-Brookes to national building.”
