Several winners at 36th edition of SJCIC Kite Flying Competition

Every year when Easter Friday rolls around, the “place to be” is The Flats for the annual Kite Flying Competition. That is according to Alsted Pemberton, President of the St. John’s Community Improvement Club (SJCIC) and host of the annual event:

 

 

Alsted Pemberton. He also shared with the VON Newsline the winners of the 2026 edition. Registered kite flyers had the opportunity to win in five (5) categories. There were 14 registered kites. These are the names of the winners:

 

Most Creative: 1st – Clayton Byron, 2nd – Clinton Liburd

Best Design: 1st – Andre Authurton, 2nd – Kejel Reid

Best Flying: 1st – Gina Liburd, 2nd – Amari Dasent

Biggest Kite: 1st – Bernard Browne Jr., 2nd – Keshon Reid

Best Book Leaf: 1st – Vivian Byron, 2nd – Ziah Hanley

 

Beyond the competition, patrons enjoyed a festive atmosphere with kite flying on the flats, activities for children, and booths offering traditional Easter dishes.a
